SEO Strategy 101
Can keywords make or break the success of your online content? Here’s some valuable info to help you maximize your SEO efforts.
When it comes to SEO and theory, there’s a LOT of information out there, and it can be very confusing. Implementing SEO strategy can be a very daunting task and figuring out the most important variables to include to attract clients is a challenging endeavor. At Cazarin Interactive, we have found that the “SEO Secret Sauce” recipe typically consists of three important components: keyword strategy, Google My Business and Optimized Content. Let’s take a deeper look at these three variables, and how to include them into your SEO game plan to generate leads.
So, What Exactly is SEO?
SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, is one of those terms that gets thrown around in modern business a lot these days but can sometimes be a tough concept to pin down. Simply put, SEO is the action of maximizing the number of visitors to your site by ensuring your site ranks high on search engine results.
Sounds like a fairly easy concept, right? The complexity of SEO and the success of your results lie in HOW you get that high ranking on search engines. In today’s online world, users expect to find answers to their questions immediately, and while there are millions of websites out there, not all of them will appear in search results; only the sites deemed the “best match” and “most relevant” to the search query will show on the first two page results. And since statistics prove that 93% of searchers never look beyond the second page of search engine results, it’s crucial you use every tool in your SEO belt to land on those first two pages.
Keyword Strategy
Utilizing keywords in your online content and tags is the single most important thing you can do to improve your SEO rankings. The basic concept of keyword strategy is including the words that people will most likely use to search for your type of business or product in strategic places on your website, tags, and content to get you noticed by both search engines and potential clients alike. Sounds simple enough, but there IS a strategy to it. Keep these variables in min when developing your keyword strategy:
- Keyword prominence is placing your most important keywords in the most important parts of your page. Success with this variable can best be achieved by placing your most valuable keywords in the best “real-estate” on your web pages, such as your H1, H2 and H3 tags, anchor text and alt text. The earlier on your page that your keywords appear, the better.
- Keyword frequency is the number of times your keywords appear in a webpage(s). While keywords DO need to be used a certain number of times throughout your page, it’s important that they appear naturally and fit with the content seamlessly. Dropping keywords into your content indiscriminately will result in driving both readers and search engines away from your site.
- Keyword proximity means keeping your keywords as close to each other as possible. Think about how you look-up things on search engines; you likely enter in identifying words together to find what you’re looking for, and don’t use “filler” words like “the” or “and” in between them. Keywords should be placed together and should also be located at the top of the page, in headings and titles.
Get Active on Google My Business.
Google My Business (GMB) is a terrific way to get your local business listed online and promoted on the web. With GMB, businesses are listed on Google maps, and include critical information about your business, like hours of operation, address, phone number, links to your website, and reviews on your products and services.
Reviews on GMB are vital, so you’ll want to generate as many positive reviews as possible. Reviews are an invaluable way to gauge whether someone should work with your company or purchase from your business. Potential clients looking for a business service will almost always delve into reviews first.
Post Regular, Fresh Content.
A blog where you regularly publish fresh, informative content is the perfect place to implement keywords. Search engines also look for fresh content that provides users with information. Blog posts provide users with relevant, interesting content as well as places where you can implement keywords and links. Consistent blogging also shows web users and search engines that you’re a credible and reputable source of information which goes a long way in boosting your website’s search results ranking and gets you on those incredibly important “Top 2” search pages and in front of potential leads.
